Hackathon Sicani

With Hackathon Sicani we brought our facilitation method outside Palermo in a structured way for the first time, into the Sicani area — an inland Sicilian territory with dynamics and needs very different from an urban historic centre, but shaped by the same underlying question that guides all our work on territory: how do you build enterprise culture where the usual infrastructure of a big city simply isn't there?

The project took shape as three participatory events run across three different Sicani towns, applying the Hackathon methodology we'd honed over the years in Palermo through processes like Verso La Favorita and Percorsi Palermo — intensive sessions of shared work, designed to surface concrete ideas quickly, with the local community as protagonist rather than audience.

Altogether the path involved 120 participants across the three towns — a meaningful number for territories where turnout at events like this is often harder to secure than in an urban setting. Hackathon Sicani sits on the same trajectory that's been drawing us, in recent years, further into Sicily's inland areas: the conviction that the third-generation coworking model and do-ocracy aren't tied to a single neighbourhood, but are a method that can be replicated anywhere there's a community willing to get involved together.
